Located on a privately owned island in the Straits of Malacca, off the west coast of Malaysia, Pangkor Laut Resort, declared a ‘paradise’ by Pavarotti, is set amidst an ancient rainforest surrounded by sweeping bays and emerald waters. The island is home to a variety of wildlife including long-tailed macaques, oriental pied hornbills, white-bellied sea eagles and large monitor lizards.
Only a fraction of the island has been developed to house this peaceful resort, its Spa Village and The Estates. Its 140 villas and suites are set high amidst the hills, nestled within lush gardens or rest on stilts above the tropical waters. Each villa has an outdoor balcony and a large bathroom with an oversized bathtub; some opening up to the rainforest or out to sea.
The eight private Estates house between two to four bedrooms set across acres of pristine rainforest and feature luxurious comforts. The focal point of each Estate is its private pool offering dramatic views either from its beachfront or hilltop location within the rainforest and comes with its own butler.
Enjoy Malay cuisine at the Feast Village, Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking at Uncle Lim's Kitchen or seafood themed dishes at Fisherman's Cove, the resort’s fine dining restaurant. For lunch choose Asian or Western cuisine at either the Royal Bay Beach Club, overlooking the pool, or Chapman's Bar, located at Emerald Bay - cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world or opt for a salad at Jamu Bar by the Spa Village lap pool. Private dining experiences can also be arranged at several stunning locations around the resort.
The Spa Village spans four-acres and comprises eight treatment pavilions, a deluxe Belian Treatment Pavilion, three ‘Healing Huts’, which include Chinese Herbal, Ayurvedic and Malay Huts, two Bath Houses, three Spa Huts, three Nap Gazebos and a Spa Boutique. This award-winning spa offers treatments inspired by the healing therapies of the Asian region.
A variety of activities are available at the resort from a cruise around the island at sunset and guided jungle treks to fishing excursions and a selection of watersports.
The Chef’s Kitchen Experience is unique as it is a gastronomic journey that includes a trip to the neighbouring island’s dried seafood markets, noodle maker and floating fish farm, a refreshing Bath House Experience at the spa as well as a cooking class.
